Farm Fair at Kualoa Ranch

9 07 2022

The Hawaii State Farm Fair down the highway at Kualoa Ranch goes on for one more day on Sunday. We ran out of energy earlier than in previous years, but not before scouring the plant booth for herbs, and the produce booth for bananas, tomatoes, and a pineapple.

We stood in a long line for fresh lemonade in a quart size Mason jar. We made the rounds in the agriculture exhibit tent. And we admired the 4-H farm animals.

Our grandkids are off island this summer, so we skipped the kiddie rides and the ponies. Finally, we headed home before any appetite lured us to the plate lunch line; tacos seemed popular.

If you are on Oahu, you might consider taking in this rural experience.

Be well.

The marvelous last days of summer

DH and Miss Marvelous

Toys

Miss Marvelous, 27 months

Summer’s almost over for Miss Marvelous. In a couple of weeks she’ll be going to school!

DH and I gave her mom a break today and took our granddaughter “holoholo,” meaning “to go out for pleasure.” Shopping. Drawing. Eating watermelon. A trip to the pool!

Then we checked out the activity on Kaneohe Bay. There’s always something happening on the water.

Today’s sights included the sailing yacht Lady Barbara, headed out from the yacht club, and the sampan Nisei, just as she pulled in to Heeia Pier.

Mango from heaven

1 07 2010

Oh joy! I found a gift in the healing space and turned it into a refreshing summer treat. A similar thing happened last season, about the time I launched this blog. I was thinking to myself, “I’m hungry,” when I glanced in the garden and saw one luscious fruit on the ground. Its name is Hayden (or Haden). Mahalo e ke Akua!

Recipe: Run a knife around the waist of the fruit (NOT through the stem end), twist apart into halves, twist pit to remove (over the sink, eat pulp around seed before discarding), fill cavity with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy immediately. Mmmm, good.
